On Sunday night I got back from the conference of the Studio Art Quilt Associates (SAQA). Every year, SAQA hosts a conference in a different city, bringing together members with experience in art quilting ranging from emerging artists to internationally known big names. This year the conference was in San Antonio, Texas, and it was my third conference.
There is a lot I could tell you about: the amazing architecture of the city; the delicious food of the area; the flora, fauna, music, colors. Artistic inspiration everywhere.
But what makes a conference special is getting together with your “tribe”. Like-minded people who understand your language and terminology, your passion, your need to create. People, who are artists like me and small business owners like me. I had conversations with experienced artists who patiently answered my questions. In turn, I had the privilege to give feedback and advice to artists who are in their early phases of their careers. No matter our level of expertise, we shared challenges, triumphs, ideas, and laughter. There was clearly a sense of community. Thank you everyone who was involved in this event!
I saw beautiful fiber art that inspired me, had conversations that motivated me and listened to presentations that excited me.
Now I’m back home and I still need time to “digest” all the impressions. I’m looking forward to being back in my studio. The energy of my tribe will carry me forward!
