A simple sentence, yet so profound.
Most of the time we see things, people, and events not the way they appear on an intellectual level, but from the heart. Our point of view is shaped by our emotions, rooted in past experiences, molded by family, friends, and strangers. We see and interpret our surroundings based on our own expectations and, yes, at times even prejudice.
Try to step back for a moment. Did we misunderstand or misinterpret? Is there another way to hear the words when we assume that the other person did not intend to hurt us? Did we respond in a ‘default’ way that was forged by experiences long ago and has little to do with the current event? Be honest with yourself.
On the other hand, do we react warm and welcoming to others because that is how we experience life? Do we act in a manner that benefits others simply because we are inspired by role models? Do we radiate a positive attitude towards life in general?
We do not live isolated but connected. We are influenced by others, and we influence others.
How do you want to see things? The way they are, or the way you are? Either way, see them mindfully!
Wishing you a mindful week,
Christine
