No matter how hard we try to be our best selves, we sometimes seem to be repeating the same mistake, seem to respond the same way, or show the same behavior time and again.
Although we appear to be going in circles, it is not really true upon closer inspection. We are going more in a spiral-shaped fashion. As the circumstances are never exactly the same, our response will never be exactly the same.
Next time you are frustrated with someone else’s behavior, or with your own, take a moment to analyze the situation. What has remained constant and what is different? Are the changes going in the right direction? The steps might be small but once you recognize them, you will be able to build on them. Be proud of these achievements.
However, if you think it’s just the same ol’, same ol’, take comfort in impermanence. Nothing stays the same. Not you, not the people around you, not the conditions of your life. Everything is in continuous flux.
Therefore, no man ever steps in the same river twice, for it’s not the same river, and he’s not the same man.
Wishing you a wonderful week embracing impermanence!
