We all hope to live a long and fulfilling life. Yet at the same time, we are not enthusiastic about getting old.
An increasing number of wrinkles adorn our face and our body loses its firmness – we don’t look what society considers ‘beautiful’.
Over the years came a few aches and pains and maybe a more serious illness – our body does not allow us to do what it used to.
At times we are forgetful, initially it’s just a name or expression, later a task or event – those ‘glitches’ with our memory become reasons to worry.
While the individual stories are different, the overall experience of aging applies to all of us.
Nowadays we are blessed with nutritious food, high-quality health care, and plenty of opportunities to socialize and stay connected. There are various options to delay or slow down some of the aspects of aging. Nevertheless, we can’t halt the progression of time.
The best way to age gracefully is to accept the changes.
Accept the laugh lines around the eyes and the fullness of our mature bodies.
Adjust our exercise program and choose new hobbies to reflect our current state of body and mind.
Focus on our abilities and not on our dis-abilities, celebrate the youth we feel in our heart and don’t lament the ‘old-ness’ we feel in our body.
We are all in this together, no exception, because aging seems to be the only available way to live a long life.
Wishing you a great week accepting the changes that make aging a unique and yet so universal journey!
