Which of the following factors would increase your chances of following through with a commitment?
You have an idea in mind but are not sure if you can follow through with it.
I can relate.
Sometimes we dream big.
But then we are concerned about making mistakes along the way. We are afraid that we run out of time or energy for what we would like to do. We are worried about being ridiculed should the project fail.
- So we better focus on the obstacles rather than the way.
- So we better listen to the negative voices in our head.
- So we better not start.
Which factor(s) would increase your chances of following through with a commitment?
- Accountability
You share your plan and someone else expects you to do your part. Isn’t it so much easier to go to the gym when you know that your friend is there, waiting for you? Excuses are harder to come by when you need to say them out loud.
- Support
You need someone who does not minimize your concerns, who believes in you and encourages you.
- Community
You want to work alongside people who are human like you, with their strengths and their weaknesses. People who have doubts but also share their resourcefulness, their energy, and their positive vibes.
- Deadlines
Your idea needs to be completed by a certain date which means you need to make time to work on it. There is more pressure to move the project along, but once the deadline arrives your project is complete. You did it!
- Anything else?
What helps you to commit to turning an idea into reality, to pushing forward, to reaching your goal?
